Is Settled In operated by locals?
Yes. Jo and Dale Reardon are born and bred Tasmanians. They love Tasmania and have lived in both the north and the south of the state. They each have personal experience in relocating to new cities and in buying, selling and renting property as a home. You can read more on the About Us page.
Is Settled In a real estate agency?
No, Settled In is not a real estate agency. We do not sell real estate and we don’t have any affiliations with real estate agencies. Our home search services are similar to that of a buyer’s agent or advocate, in that we work on behalf of those wanting to purchase property. We offer search services, but at this time we do not negotiate on your behalf to purchase a property. You can read more about how we are different to a buyer’s advocate here.
Do you provide services across the whole of Tasmania?
Yes. Settled In can help you relocate to most parts of Tasmania. We are based in Hobart and can help you relocate to Hobart and Southern Tasmania. We also provide relocation and home search services in all major centres and rural areas. This includes Launceston and the North East of Tasmania, Burnie, Devonport and the North West of Tasmania and the East Coast. At this stage, we are unable to offer services for the West Coast.
HOW CAN SETTLED IN HELP ME?
How will you know what I really want in a new house?
When you first make an enquiry about finding a new home, we will talk with you about what you want and send you a questionnaire to complete. This will help us understand your needs and what is most important to you.
We will ask you your preferences, including:
- the style of property
- number and size of rooms and layout
- quality of fittings and fixtures
- your willingness – or not – to undertake some renovations
- desired location, travel times and facilities close by
- and much more
If at any time during the search process your preferences change, the search will change to accommodate your needs.
I need to start work as soon as I arrive, can you help with setting up the new house?
Yes. Once you are ready to move into your new home, Settled In offers a range of services to help you get settled more quickly.
- Assistance with connecting utilities (electricity, gas, phone)
- Collection of house keys from estate agent
- Assistance with delivery of furniture and belongings
- Provision of basic pantry supplies (at cost)
- Coordination and supervision of Austar (Pay TV) installation (if applicable)
- Attendance at house for other services as required
- Plus other services detailed under Relocation Services
Can you help me find childcare and playgroups?
Yes. Our school and childcare search includes the following:
- A thorough assessment of your needs and preferences
- School and/or childcare profiles are provided for options that meet your requirements
- Contact is made with the schools and/or childcare centres to assess the availability of places, enrolment procedures and other requirements
- Appointments made to visit schools and meet with enrolment managers
- Assistance with enrolment applications
- Assistance with arrangements for commencement including uniforms, books and other needs
- For those with very young children we can also help you find mother’s groups and provide information on the maternal and child health system in Tasmania
Can you help me find some social groups?
Yes. We can help you find sporting clubs, cultural groups, photography clubs, dance classes, art and craft classes and anything else that will help you settle in and enjoy your new life in Tasmania.
Can you help me with staff who are relocating from outside Tasmania?
Yes. We will work with your Human Resources department and the relocating employee to deliver a customised relocation service that meets the needs of your employee and remains within the relocation budget you set. You can read more on the Relocating Your Employees page.
I only need some of your services, is that ok?
Yes of course. We tailor our services to your particular needs and you will never be forced to take a package of services that includes things you will not use. We are happy to provide as much or as little assistance as you require. Our aim is to help you quickly settle into your new life in Tasmania.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
How much do you charge for Home Search services?
Our home search services are tailored to suit your individual circumstances. We can do as little or as much as you like to help you find your new home. Our range of home search services are detailed on the Home Search page and pricing details are available here.
How much do you charge for Relocation services?
Our relocation services are tailored to suit your individual circumstances. We can help you by taking on the management of your whole move or just one or two aspects of your move. It is completely up to you, there are no set packages of services. Our range of relocation services are detailed on the Relocation Services page and pricing details are available here.
What form of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, cheque, bank transfer and credit card. Credit card payments are able to be made through PayPal. Please note that you do not need to have a PayPal account to make a payment with this method. We do not add a surcharge for payment by credit card and PayPal does not charge you a fee.
Do I need to pay upfront?
We ask that you pay a deposit at the time that you engage our services. The amount of the deposit will vary depending on the value of the services to be provided.
MOVING TO TASMANIA
How do I get my car to Tasmania?
The simplest and cheapest way to get your car to Tasmania is to travel with it on the Spirit of Tasmania. Of course this means firstly getting to Melbourne which may not be the best option for you. Alternatively the removal companies you receive quotes from for your goods will also be able to quote on the cost of shipping your car to Tasmania and delivering it to your new home. We can also provide recommendations of Tasmanian removalists who can provide a quote for you.
Can you arrange my furniture removal?
We do not arrange for the physical move of your goods. As we do not have offices at your current location, it is more efficient for you to arrange for quotations for removalists. We can however provide recommendations of Tasmanian removal companies that specialise in interstate moves.
LIVING IN TASMANIA
What is Tassie weather really like?
In our opinion (ie. Loyal Tasmanians who have also lived elsewhere in Australia), the weather in Tasmania has an unjustified bad reputation! Yes, of course it can be very cold and often not as warm as other states in summer, but unless you love days on end of 35 degree plus weather in summer you will probably love it.
